Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Worked with the BBS Program through our Church’s volunteer after school outreach program. The primary goal of our program is to provide after school learning and recreation programs and opportunities for the communities younger children who have working parents. We organize and direct home work study sessions and tutor students that need additional help.
Christmas Brings Hope. As a committee member on our Church’s Youth Program, I worked with other members and our Sponsors to plan and coordinate a week long special Christmas Program that emphasized the meaning and spirit of Christmas (Winter 2009). This special event organized the younger church members into “Action Teams” that sought opportunities to assist others in the community. We emphasized in home visits to the elderly and shut-ins, assisted many in preparing for the holidays, and established a call in “Help Line” for the entire community to use to request assistance that a teenager could provide – running errands, assisting with shopping, and bringing in the mail.
Church Youth Group President. Presently, serving as president of our Church Youth Group. I am responsible to our Youth Group Director and the Mother of our Church for maintaining the club’s records and to coordinate group meetings; and, to work with both to recruit new members, raise funds, plan group travel and other events with the National Church.
Clubs and Associations:
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). I am a member of FCCLA. FCCLA is a nonprofit U.S. Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for young men and women, that helps them to pursue family and consumer science (FACS) education in public and private schools through grade 12. FCCLA incorporates programs that focus on the family, and its primary mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. The program focuses on the multitude of roles in the family and the community. Our members develop usable life skills by participating in programs designed to strengthen character development, foster creative and critical thinking, sharpen interpersonal communication, and to increase our practical knowledge.
High School Organizations.
Beta Club. I am an active member of the Batesville High School Beta Club. Our group recently designed and constructed the “Miss Pioneer” float for the Annual White River Water Carnival Parade (Summer 2009), and helped plan and prepare for the High School White River Water Carnival Dance. Planning for both events required our club to develop several fund raising events, i.e. car washes, Fall clean-up campaigns and to seek sponsorship from the local business community.
Band. I was a member of my schools marching band for 2 years. I play the clarinet and have participated in band concerts and musical contest.
Track and Field. I am an active member of my school Track and Field Team. I compete in the short distance running events, high jump and the shot put and discus throw. I have earned two Varsity Letters in Track and Field.
Basketball Team. I am an active member of my high school basketball team. I have played on an organized team for 5 years (since 7th grade), and recently earned my third Basketball Varsity Letter.
Soft Ball Team. I played on a community Softball team the past 2 years.
Drama Club. I am an active member of my high school Drama Club. I have acted in plays as a primary and supporting cast member, helped build the sets, and served as the Chairperson on several committees. I have also attended drama workshops and assisted our Director plan and produce a school musical production.
Science Club. I am a member of my high school Science Club, and currently serve as the Club secretary, responsible for maintaining club records and creating club bulletins. As a member of the Science Club, I often attend and participate in various science fairs.
